Ittelfuse launches setPTM temperature indicator for USB Type-C connectors at the 2018 Indian Electronic Components and Production Equipment Show

October 19, 2018 - Littelfuse, Inc. today announced the launch of the PolySwitch setP series of temperature indicators. This product protects users of USB Type C and USB powered charging lines from overheating. Littelfuse announced the news at the ED45 booth in Hall 4 of the Indian Electronic Components and Production Equipment Show. The International Trade Fair for Electronic Components, Systems and Applications was held on September 26-28, 2018 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Center (BIEC) in Bangalore, India.

If dust, dust, or other dirt gets stuck in the USB Type-C cable connector, a resistance fault will form between the power cord and the ground, causing a risk of temperature rise without increasing current. The setP, which is independent of the power supply, senses an increase in temperature, prompting the charging port to turn off the current. After the user disconnects the cable and removes dirt, the cable resumes normal operation. The setP temperature indicator's compact 0805 (mil) form factor makes it at least 50% smaller than other solutions that require the device to be plugged into the power cord. Connecting the protection device to the power line can also result in power loss. The same setP device can be used to protect cables designed for 15W, 60W or 100W operation.
