Customer Questions & Answers Question: Will this work on a PC? Answer: As long as it accepts ThunderBolt 3 or USB C. Question: Will my iPhone charge if plugged into this and this into my MacBook? Answer: Yes. Question: Does this work with external drives? The picture shows external hard drives but the description says not to use external hard drives... Answer: It works with USB 3.0 drives without a problem for me. It does have some issues with older USB 2.0 drives at times (but not always). I have this attached to my gaming laptop, which is Windows-based and not a Mac, so I can’t speak for performance with a Mac computer.
Customer Feedback "Needed a few more USB-As than come on the 2018 mini, so I went with this - has a powered 3.5" hard drive enclosure connected to it, an unpowered 2.5" hard drive enclosure connected to it, and a monitor hub and they are all running without issues at the rated speed. The cable that comes out of it is a soft-touch material and is long enough to sit comfortably next to the mini without issue or significant bending. The power caution in the product details is valid. While I've had success with the 2.5" drive enclosure, I did not have success with a USB Pioneer Blu-ray drive. It was able to work periodically and then would abruptly disconnect. Using one of the USB-A ports on the mini directly worked fine. This is not a negative to the product, just an FYI. As for color, while the space gray is slightly lighter than the new mini (Apple appears to have varying definitions of space gray these days), it's very close to the 2016-2017 laptop space gray color and has a similar finish so I'm pleased with that.
