It is meant for one computer and two monitors, but, as an alternate use, I reversed it and hooked up one monitor so that I can access two computers (not at the same time). The only caveat is that only one may be connected at a time. My laptop has HDMI and I had to get an HDMI/DVI adapter. The monitor is only DVI and VGA. My PC is DVI. I cannot have both cables connected at the same time. So yes, I still have to disconnect either PC or laptop in order for the monitor to work. But at least the cable makes it so that I don't have to keep turning my monitor on it's side to reach the connector. It is easier to connect and disconnect each DVI connection when it is at a distance from the monitor."
