RS232 cable

USB 2.0 to RS232 Male DB9 Serial Cable built with the Industry Leading FTDI Chipest.Supports Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP//2000 /Linux 2.4 or above /and Mac OS X 10.6 and above,OpenBSD 2.9 and later & FreeBSD 4.7 and above. Simple installation, plug and play.

Corrects DTE/DCE Conflicts Without Additional Cables/Adapters

The USB to Null Modem Serial Adapter Cable (1-Port) converts an available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port into an RS232 Null Modem serial DB9 port, solving DCE/DTE conflicts directly, without requiring additional cross-wired serial cables or adapters

COM Retention and Integrated FTDI Chipset

This compact adapter features COM retention, allowing the same COM port value to automatically be re-assigned to the port if the cable is disconnected and re-connected to the host computer, or if the system is rebooted.

The integrated FTDI chipset supports additional customization, advanced features, and compatibility not necessarily offered by other solutions.

An Ideal Solution For Any Setup

The USB to Null Modem adapter is compatible with a broad list of operating systems including Windows, Windows CE, Mac OS and Linux, making it easier to integrate into mixed environments.

Customer questions & answers

Question: Does this work to connect any RS232 device? I have a satellite receiver that uses RS232 and I need to connect it to my PC.

Answer: No. There are two types of this cable. Null Modem and the Regular RS232 one.

Question: I have a serial port on one pc and only usb ports on the other. will i be able to use this to establish serial connection between two pcs?

Answer: If you need a serial port for each PC, then this will give you that on the PC that currently does not have that type of port. I would think if you were inter-connecting 2 pc's there maybe more to this than just a cable, you may need a switch to toggle between the 2 PC's. That is above my knowledge but if you are looking for a good reliable adapter to give you a serial port that you can choose, this is the one.

Question: Is this configured as a null modem cable?

Answer: No. You need to configurate the settings. If you need detailed support, please feel free to email us.

Customer Feedback

1. Worked as advertised, iMac sees the usb connected device (rs232) as a standard serial connected device. Works fine to program my Uniden BCD996P2 scanner from a Windows XP virtual machine as a standard serial device on a standard Com port.

2. I've used ones in the past that had a bulky connecter. This is slim like an ordinary USB cable. The length is appropriate as well. Worked well with a Win10 Home laptop.

3. One of the nicest null modem cables I've used. Works flawlessly in Windows 10 off a USB 3 port. I love how it has lights on it so I can confirm rcx and trx signals. I've used this successful to log into a number of network appliance consoles. No drivers were needed in Windows 10, it was plug and play. It does come with a driver disk if you need it for older OSes.
Due not that the DB9 side stick out a little bit further than normal because it has the electronics in it for the USB to Serial conversion, keep that in mind if you have to work in a tight space.

4. The only con I can think of is that you need to install the driver, other than that, it works great. I love these FTDI adapters and I especially like the the status LEDs because you know something is working if you can't see it. The RJ45 -> serial cables are nice because they don't need drivers, but they use up your NIC port, so if you're working in a datacenter that doesn't have wireless and you're depending on a direct connection to a switch, a USB-based adapter is great.

5. This is a great cable for prototyping if your board doesn't support a TTL connection. Being able to monitor if RX and TX are both working is very useful. If you always need a null modem for your designs because that is the way the plug is wired, this saves you the annoyance of needing an extra adapter. Especially nice if you have to travel often with cables as I do.
However, if your board/device does not have a crossover you should look for a cable without a null modem built in so you don't need a null modem adapter to "cross back" to get a direct connection.
Most importantly, this uses the rock solid FTDI FT232R chip which in my experience is by far the most reliable in terms of the chip itself and drivers for modern Windows(Vista+) versions vs the common Prolific and ATEN chip-sets found in most other cables like this
