The adapter works great with no static or pixilation. Not everyone would need such an adapter, but if you have an older mac sitting around, this adapter increases its usability and connect ability.."

"It is unfortunate that the reviews for the DVI-D to VGA (24 + 1 pin) and DVI-I to VGA (24 + 5 pin) are combined for this brand and type of product. The 24 + 1 pin configuration almost never works. Only a few specific setups allow VGA signal over DVI-D links. The 4 additional pins in the 24 + 5 pin design are the ones that carry the analog signal that allow the use of a VGA monitor with a DVI connector. If your video card only has a DVI-D connector, it is likely that you will not be able to connect to an old VGA monitor. That is not a limitation of this adapter, but of your video card. Note that these adapters are for the output side only. You cannot connect this adapter to the DVI input on your monitor and get signal from a VGA output on your computer."
