Overview |
DB9 9-Pin Serial Port to Ethernet Adapter CableFeatures: This one piece cable is used for connecting your computer's serial port to the RJ45 console port on most Cisco equipment. This rollover console cable has an RJ45 connector on one end and a DB9 serial connector on the other end. To use the cable you will connect the RJ45 connector to your equipment and the DB9 connector to the serial port on your computer. This is the new style cable that replaces the old style "console kit" (rollover cable & adaptor). This cable is compatible with most Cisco equipment with an RJ45 style console port. If your equipment has a DB25 console port you will need the 4 piece console kit. Customer questions & answers Question: Will this work with a Ubiquiti Edge Router Console Port? Answer: yes it works, but also you need serial to usb like this ASIN: B00HUZ6OMQ Question: Is it compatible with UPS units that use DB9-RJ45 connector? For example APC and MGE units. Answer: Having tested this cable on a few Cisco and non-Cisco switch and router systems myself (all with 100% success), I'd say that it will *probably* work with UPS units as well. Question: Is this a null modem serial cable? Answer: No this has a 9 pin contector on one end and a RJ45 on the other.
Customer Feedback 1. This cable shipped to me had the following measured pinouts (RJ45-DB9): 1-8, 2-6, 3-2, 4-5, 5-NC, 6-3, 7-4, 8-7. (NC=no connection) This wiring makes it equivalent to a null modem cable, or a Cisco "RJ45 rollover cable + terminal adapter" configuration used for connecting console ports on Cisco routers to PC serial ports. 2. The cable worked well. It was sketchy at first with a lot of garbled text. But after a reset to clear the config, the sessions to my 3com 4200g became clear. Was able to cleanly configure my switch and have it work correctly for my network. 3. I bought this cable to connect to a Fortinet Fortigate Firewall. I figured at this cheap of a price, even if it didn't work it wouldn't be a big loss. The cable worked as advertised (well, it's not advertised for Fortinet products but it works). I would recommend this cable vs paying $25+ for the same cable elsewhere. I used this in conjunction with a serial to USB cable as my laptop does not have a serial port (Do any laptops have serial ports anymore?). 4. Worked great for programming a commercial grade Cisco Switch .I used Putty as remote access software and was able to program a 2 layer switch. For the price, it's awesome. Nice molded connectors on a flat cable. 5. i am just learning Cisco and i brought this to connect my Cisco 2801 router to my laptop. It is inexpensive and works great. simple just plug it in. yes, would i buy it again. its a cable so not much to say. it is flat instead of round.
