USB 3.1 requires a different front panel header than USB 3.0.

The USB 3.1 port interface uses the USB 3.0 pin set and more. It is designed to be backward compatible (will explain later).

1. Cable connects ASUS USB3.1 Gen2 header to two USB3.1 Gen1 devices - Is not for USB3.1 Gen 2 use Septem.

I had to try ASUS Z370 MOBO's internal USB31G2_E3 internal connector - bottom line: not worth the effort unless want more USB3.1 Gen 1 ports. The cable connects securely to the MOBO U31G2 header and connects to two USB 3.1 Gen 1 devices. The cable does not take advantage of ASUS Gen 2 pins for CC1/CC2 and SB1/SU2.so does not support USB 3.1 Gen 2. The cable is less than 12 inches in length, so just reaches the front panel device. The cable was connected to a USB splitter cable and recognized two attached USB 3.1 thumb drives. Configured the BIOS for ASMedia front panel USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Enabled) and selected USB3.1 front panel instead of PCIeX1. Crystal Disk Mark speed test using the USB 3.1 Gen2 header and this cable gave the same results for a USB 3.1 Gen 1 device, as expected. So if expecting USB 3.1 Gen 2 performance from this cable - forget it! The cable does not take full advantage of the ASUS U31G2 connector, waiting for Gen 2 devices before trying a different cable.

2. Allowed me to connect my GEN2 (USB C) case port to my motherboard's GEN1 USB 3.1.

Gwiriwch pa gynnyrch rydw i'n sôn amdano uchod ^. Mae hyn i ffitio cebl USB-C achos (3.1 GEN2) i famfwrdd gyda dim ond cysylltwyr 3.1 rheolaidd (GEN1).

My MSI Z370 has 2 GEN1 USB 3.1 connectors (on the board), but no GEN2 connectors (they're smaller and look a bit like a SATA connector mixed with an old-school Firewire). I have a new NZXT 510i case that has a USB C port on it. However, you need a GEN2 connector on your motherboard for it to work. This product solves that issue as it uses the 2 channels of the USB 3.1 port (5G each) and mixes them up to create a 10G lane, and it works perfectly. I tried to measure the speed but honestly, it goes so fast I can't find a big enough file to check... It transferred a gigabit file to my Pixel 2 phone in what seemed to be about 6-10 seconds.

Now, the only thing to check is that you have a free USB 3.1 port on your motherboard and that since the adapter is at a right angle, it will physically fit. I have 2, and the first one would have not fit with the RAM (see top port on picture), to use the second one, I had to move my GPU to a lower port (see picture, if I used the top PCIe port it would have been covering the port which would still allow to fit a flat case 3.1 connector, but not this angled adapter).

3. Works With USB 3 Type C Header.

Cable did what I had hoped it would do. It allowed me to use the previously useless USB 3.0 Type C header on my z390 Dark Motherboard. I tried using a USB 3.0 Type C to USB 3.0 header converter cable, but it didn't work. So what I did was use this cable to plug into my Type C header and then I also purchased a USB 3.0 Type C to USB 3.0 Hub, which gave me 4 additional USB 3.0 ports. So, I'm very happy with this product. The cable is pretty long, although it was just a bit too short for what I wanted to do. No big deal, I found a workaround.
You can see in the pic I attached this cable plugged into my USB Type C header on my motherboard in the upper left corner.

4. It worked with a new motherboard.

My Supermicro desktop motherboard included a type C header for USB 3.1 type 1. This extension cable allowed me to add a USB type C port to the back of my PC. It worked correctly when I connected it with an HDD dock. The expansion slot bracket wasn't a perfect fit for my case but stayed put securely enough to be used.
